I have been talking about doing it for years. The time for talk is over. It is time to do the walk (or paddle, as the case may be). Starting on Saturday, Oct. 9 I will begin a 300 mile, self-supported, solo kayak expedition on the Cimarron River from a point just north of where it enters Oklahoma in Harper County near Buffalo all the way to the Lake Keystone dam near Sand Springs. I am allowing 8 days to get it done, which means averaging 37.5 miles per day. That is going to require no small amount of paddling because the river at that time of year will be very low.
I will start with everything I need and will not be obtaining any supplies along the way. I will drink filtered/purified water obtained from the river. My means of transportation will be either paddling my single-person Ocean Kayak ("Spunky") or dragging it along if the water is too shallow for floating. Either way, I will cover the distance.
I have plenty of logistical experience for this type of adventure, having spent for than a few weeks living out of a backpack in various hostile environments around the world.
Eight days to become one with the river. I'm all for that.
